Excellent piece Griffin! My husband and I frequently ponder the points you discuss - glad that you put them out there so clearly. You may appreciate Michael O'Brien's "Open Letter to Writers and Artists" which we'll be commenting on in an upcoming post: https://saintpatrickpress.com/?p=877#:~:text=Ask%20for%20growth%20in%20skill,incarnate%20Truth%20in%20beautiful%20forms.

Thank you so much Griffin, I feel as though your words have placed me in the path of sobriety. I very much needed to hear them. God bless you.

This is very good. Thank you for sharing. It helps to change our perspective a bit. I'm going to put my computer aside for now, stop looking at how many reads my last post got, and do my homework for a Precepts class I'm taking. 🙂

Great thoughts, but as a matter of deep conviction I have to point out that that's not a Lewis quote. I think it comes from Rick Warren actually. :-/

Haha that’s wild I never knew that. So odd that it’s been attributed to Lewis so vigorously

Super helpful. Saved it to keep reminding myself of these truths. Thank you for pointing us to Jesus and His glory.

This is so helpful, thank you - particularly the part about having a low opinion of what other people think of us, as well as a low opinion of what we think of ourselves. Truly, how God views us is all that matters. I need to mull over this for several days. This one goes down deep because fear of man is one of my besetting sins.

So glad you liked it :) I wrote this mainly out of my own personal struggle in that areas as well. It’s a tough battle!

Thank you for this! I appreciate your sober minded and well balanced approach, from which I will be adapting my own rhythms.

This was such a thoughtful and needed piece! One question that I ask myself when I go to share my content is: how does this help my reader? Focusing on the value helps me promote without feeling like I'm focusing on myself!

This was really good, Griffin! You articulated much of what I've intuited and *tried* to employ in recent years while offering me some new ideas, too. I have been thankful for discovering so much of the early church focus/wisdom around vainglory (thanks, Evagarius) in recent years, as it has become a key lens for checking my own motives in life.

I also think the practice of confession/repentance (metanoia) is key for the aim of not losing our souls in this writing & content world; speaking the truth over and over again about who we truly are helps us know what is good & right in our recovery of illness. (I mean, we're all sick in the hospital together, are we not? So, we all need crystal clarity on what helpful prescriptions are needed and what things will deliberately hurt our healing with Jesus (which vary for each of us). These are all things I've been chewing on lately...)

Anyway, thank you for this piece! I'm taking much of what you generously offered to heart.

Great insights!! I like the point on metanoia. It reminds me that Dallas Willard said that we should live in a constant state of metanoia in order to renovate our heart and live in proper alignment with God’s grace. Super fascinating stuff. I’m happy you liked the post :)

There's so much good stuff in here, Griffin, thank you. I initially said "I want to read more about..." and look what you gave to me and many others! What a gift!

Wow and woe and thank you Jesus for your timing in all things. Griffin, this addressed “all the things” I’m pondering as I resist having to post my art and writing to “get attention” and pay my bills.
